Join me live on Thursday the 21st, slightly different from our usual Friday session, as I have a prior engagement on Friday. So thank you for your understanding and flexibility with this change of day.

For this demonstration, we’ll be painting a photograph by Andrew Kaye, kindly shared in the Facebook group.

It’s a great opportunity to take a fairly busy, green landscape and really simplify it, letting the brushwork and paint handling do much of the work. We’ll be aiming to capture that strong Spanish-style sunlight, along with the beautiful flowers in the foreground, and perhaps even push things a little more impressionistic than usual.

Looking forward to exploring how far we can take simplification, light, and atmosphere in this one.

Suggested Palette

I’ll be using the following colours during the demonstration:

• Titanium White

• Naples Yellow

• Cadmium Yellow Pale

• Yellow Ochre

• Cad Red

• Transparent Red Oxide (or Burnt Sienna)

• Burnt Umber

• Cobalt Blue

• Ultramarine Blue

• Sap Green

This palette is simply a guide, so feel free to work with whatever colours you already have. There are many different ways we could approach this painting using a variety of palettes and the important thing is focusing on values, shapes, and the sense of light.
